App Privacy Policy

App privacy policy

Version 1.1 · Effective date: September 2, 2026 · Last updated: September 2, 2026 · Applies to: Scriptorio for iOS

This App Privacy Policy describes how Impelechy LLC ("Impelechy," "we," "us," or "our") collects, uses, protects, and shares personal information when you download or use Scriptorio, our iOS application (the "App"). It is separate from and supplemental to the Privacy Policy that governs our website at https://scriptorio.app.

Our design principle is to keep as much of your reading life as possible on your own device. Where information does leave your device, we tell you what, why, and to whom — in the tables below.

To exercise any of your privacy rights, email us at [email protected]. We respond to all requests within 45 days — typically much sooner.

01 — Who We Are

Impelechy LLC is a limited liability company registered in the State of Wyoming, United States. Impelechy LLC is the entity responsible for the personal information processed through the App.

Impelechy LLC
30 N Gould St Ste N
Sheridan, WY 82801 US

02 — What We Collect & Why

We collect only what is necessary to operate the App and provide you with the features you use. The categories below describe the personal information we process, why we need it, and where it is stored.

A — Account information

Data Why we collect it Where it lives
Email address To create and secure your account and to send transactional messages such as password resets and account-related notices. Supabase authentication service (United States)
Password (hashed) To authenticate you when you sign in with email and password. We never store or receive your password in plain text. It is hashed using bcrypt on our authentication provider's servers. Supabase authentication service (United States)
Display name (optional) Used to greet you inside the App. You choose whether to provide one and can change or clear it at any time in Settings. Supabase authentication metadata (United States)
Apple Sign In identifier (optional) If you sign in with Apple, we receive an Apple-issued opaque user identifier. If you choose "Hide My Email," we only see Apple's relay address, never your real email. Supabase authentication service (United States)

B — Content you create

Data Why we collect it Where it lives
Books you add (title, author, ISBN, cover image URL, publisher, year, page count, description, your rating and takeaway) To build your personal library, sync it across your devices, and back it up in case you lose or replace your device. Your device and your Supabase database row (United States)
Notes and marginalia (content, tags, page reference, source URL, capture date) To store your reading notes, sync them across devices, and enable features such as themes, search, and spaced-repetition review. Your device and your Supabase database row (United States)
Themes and collections (name, description, membership) To let you organize notes by topic across books. Your device and your Supabase database row (United States)
Reading sessions (book, duration, pages read, start time) To power your reading streak, weekly recap, and progress tracking. Your device and your Supabase database row (United States)
Cover images you attach from your Photo Library Only images you explicitly select in the App's cover-image picker are read. Selected images are stored locally on your device and are not uploaded to our servers. Your device only

C — Subscription information

Data Why we collect it Where it lives
Subscription status, plan (monthly or yearly), renewal date, product identifier To determine whether your account has access to paid features and to display your current plan in Settings. RevenueCat (United States) and your Supabase profile row (United States)
Payment method, card number, billing address We never receive this. Apple processes all subscription payments through the App Store. We only ever learn whether your subscription is currently active. Apple (see Apple's Privacy Policy)

D — Product analytics

Data Why we collect it Where it lives
Product-usage events (feature used, subscription funnel step, app lifecycle) plus device model, iOS version, App version, locale, and an identifier: before you sign in, one generated by the analytics SDK; after you sign in, your internal account identifier — a randomly generated UUID that carries no personal information on its own To understand which features people find useful, spot crashes and broken flows, and improve the App. Because events carry an account identifier, we can see how usage develops over time for a given account rather than only in aggregate. We do not send your email address, your display name, or the content of your notes, books, or themes to our analytics processor. PostHog (United States, us.i.posthog.com)

You can opt out of product analytics at any time in the App under Settings → Data & Privacy → "Share anonymous analytics." When opted out, the SDK stops sending events immediately.

E — Server-side integrations

Feature What is sent Recipient
ISBN and title lookups (when you scan or search for a book), including cover-image resolution The ISBN or search string you enter. No personal identifiers are attached. Cover images are resolved through a fallback chain across Google Books, Open Library, and publisher commerce listings so we can display the correct cover for the widest possible catalog. Google Books API (United States), Open Library / Internet Archive (United States), and Amazon product-image endpoints (United States) — all proxied through our own server-side function
"Shared idea" one-sentence explanations between two of your notes (Today tab hero card) The text of the two notes involved, together with their internal identifiers. Sent only when the feature is displayed to you. Responses are cached server-side to avoid repeated calls for the same pair. Anthropic PBC (United States), reached only through our own server-side function
Email-address anti-abuse validation on signup and email change The email address you entered is checked against known disposable-email domains. To evaluate mail-server heuristics, we also perform DNS lookups (MX and SPF records) for the address's domain against Cloudflare's public DNS resolver (1.1.1.1); only the domain portion of the address is included in the DNS query, never the full address. Our own server-side function, with domain-only DNS queries to Cloudflare, Inc. (United States)
Transactional emails (password-change and email-change confirmations) Your current email address, the timestamp of the change, and, for email changes, the previous address. Sent only when you perform the action that triggers the notification. Resend (United States), reached only through our own server-side function
Device-integrity check for trial-abuse prevention An opaque per-device token issued by Apple's DeviceCheck service. The token cannot be used to identify you personally and is never linked to your name, email, or content. We use it only to record whether a device has already redeemed the free trial. Apple DeviceCheck (United States), reached only through our own server-side function

03 — What Stays On Your Device

Some of the App's most personal features are designed so the underlying data never leaves your device:

  • Text recognition (OCR) from photos of book pages runs entirely on-device using Apple's Vision framework. The photo you scan is never uploaded to our servers.
  • Semantic understanding of your notes — the vectors that power the connections graph and the "Your mind" view — is generated on-device using Apple's NLContextualEmbedding. The note text is never sent to any third-party embedding service. The resulting vectors are stored in your Supabase account so they can sync between your own devices, but no one else can read them, and they are not shared with any third party.
  • Spaced-repetition review state (FSRS) is stored only on the device where you reviewed the card. It is never uploaded, so review state does not sync between devices by design.
  • Local notifications for reminders, reviews, and weekly recaps are scheduled and delivered entirely by iOS. No push server is involved, and no data leaves the device to trigger them. Some reminders include a short excerpt of the note they refer to, so that text can appear on your lock screen. You can hide it at any time in iOS under Settings → Notifications → Scriptorio → Show Previews, or turn the reminders off inside the App.
  • The home-screen widget reads from a small copy of your most recent notes that the App keeps in its own shared container on the device, so the widget can draw without launching the App. This copy never leaves the device and is covered by iOS file protection; it is removed when you sign out or delete the App.

04 — How We Store & Protect Your Data

Your account and content are stored in Supabase, a managed Postgres platform operated by Supabase, Inc. Our production database and authentication service are hosted in the AWS US-East (Virginia) region.

We implement the following technical and organizational security measures:

  • TLS 1.2+ for every request between the App and our servers
  • Row-Level Security policies in the database, so a signed-in user can only read and write their own rows — enforced at the database level, not only in application code
  • Passwords stored as salted bcrypt hashes by our authentication provider; we never see plain-text passwords
  • Server-side rate limiting on sensitive endpoints (signup validation, book lookups, LLM calls, account deletion) to prevent abuse
  • Service-role database credentials held only in server-side function secrets, never shipped with the App
  • Encryption at rest for the database, per our processor's standard configuration
  • Access to administrative dashboards restricted to Impelechy LLC personnel via multi-factor authentication

No method of electronic transmission or storage is 100% secure. While we use commercially reasonable measures to protect your data, we cannot guarantee absolute security.

05 — Third-Party Processors

We do not sell your personal information. We do not share your data with third parties for marketing or advertising purposes. The processors listed below act on our instructions under written data-processing terms:

Processor Role Data processed Location
Supabase, Inc. Authentication, Postgres database, and server-side functions Account credentials, all content you create in the App (books, notes, themes, reading sessions), subscription status United States (AWS US-East)
RevenueCat, Inc. Subscription management and receipt verification Your internal account identifier (a randomly generated UUID), subscription events (start, renewal, cancellation, expiration), product identifier, App Store transaction identifiers — never your email address and never payment card data United States
Apple Inc. App Store distribution, Sign in with Apple, in-app subscription billing, on-device services (Vision, Natural Language, StoreKit, Notifications) Whatever Apple's own systems require for these features. Governed by Apple's Privacy Policy. United States and Apple's global infrastructure
PostHog Inc. Aggregate product analytics (opt-out available in-app) Event names, device model, App version, iOS version, locale, and an identifier (generated by the analytics SDK before sign-in, your internal account UUID after sign-in). Your email address, display name, and the content of your notes, books, and themes are not sent. United States (us.i.posthog.com)
Google LLC Books API for ISBN and title lookups when you add a book The ISBN or search string you enter. No account identifier is attached. United States
Internet Archive (Open Library) Fallback book-metadata and cover-image lookups when Google Books has no result The ISBN you scanned or entered. No account identifier is attached. United States
Amazon.com, Inc. Fallback cover-image resolution when neither Google Books nor Open Library returns a usable cover The ISBN you scanned or entered, used to fetch a publisher-supplied cover image. No account identifier is attached. United States
Anthropic PBC One-sentence "shared idea" explanation between two of your notes The text of the two notes for which the explanation is generated, sent from our server-side function. Responses are cached server-side. Anthropic does not train models on this content per its commercial API terms. United States
Resend (Second Team, Inc.) Transactional email delivery for password-change and email-change confirmations Your account email address, the timestamp of the change, and (for email changes) the previous address. Sent only when you perform the action that triggers the notification. United States
Cloudflare, Inc. Public DNS resolver (1.1.1.1) used during signup-time email-domain reputation checks The domain portion of the email address you entered (never the full address, never linked to an account). United States

All processors are contractually prohibited from using your personal data for their own purposes or for advertising. We review each processor's security posture before engagement and update this list whenever processors change.

Other disclosure circumstances

  • Legal obligations: We may disclose your information if required by law, regulation, valid legal process, or governmental request.
  • Business transfers: In the event of a merger, acquisition, or sale of all or part of our assets, your data may be transferred as part of that transaction. We will notify you by email and provide you with the opportunity to request deletion before the transfer takes effect.
  • Vital interests: We may disclose information if we reasonably believe it is necessary to protect the rights, property, or safety of Impelechy, our users, or the public.

06 — What We Do Not Collect

The App does not request, receive, or process any of the following:

  • Your precise or approximate location (no GPS, no Wi-Fi geolocation, no IP-based location lookup by us)
  • Access to your contacts, calendar, or reminders
  • Access to your microphone or camera, except for the barcode scanner and OCR camera flows which run only when you actively initiate them and process the frames on-device
  • Your Advertising Identifier (IDFA). We do not present an App Tracking Transparency prompt because we do not track you across other companies' apps or websites
  • Third-party advertising SDKs, cross-app trackers, or behavioral advertising pixels
  • Any special categories of personal information (health, biometric, precise financial, racial, political, religious, sexual orientation, immigration, or union-membership data)
  • Data from users we know or reasonably believe to be under 13

We do not sell your personal information, and we do not "share" it for cross-context behavioral advertising within the meaning of California law.

07 — Data Retention

  • Active content (books, notes, themes, reading sessions) is retained for as long as your account exists. You can delete individual items in the App at any time.
  • Soft-deleted content: when you delete an item, it is initially marked as deleted so the change can sync to your other devices. Soft-deleted rows are hard-deleted from the database no later than 90 days after the deletion timestamp.
  • Account deletion: when you delete your account from Settings, we perform a full cascade delete of your account and all associated rows across every table. This action is irreversible.
  • Subscription records are retained by our subscription processor and Apple for the period required by tax and consumer-protection law.
  • Analytics events are retained by our analytics processor for up to 12 months. After you sign in they are associated with your internal account identifier, but they never contain your email address, your display name, or any content you create. When you delete your account, the account record that gives the identifier its meaning is destroyed, so the remaining analytics events can no longer be resolved to you; they age out at the end of the retention period. You can also email us to have your analytics records deleted immediately.
  • Server logs containing IP addresses may be retained by our infrastructure providers for up to 30 days for security and abuse prevention.

08 — Your Choices Inside the App

  • Export your data: Settings → Data & Privacy → Export produces a JSON file containing your books, notes, and themes. You can share it or store it locally.
  • Share a book or a note: The App can render a shareable image (for a finished book or a pair of connected notes) and hand it off to iOS's system share sheet. The image is generated on your device and is not uploaded to us or cached on our servers. From the moment you pick a destination (for example Messages, Instagram, or Photos), that destination's own privacy practices govern how the image is stored or transmitted.
  • Turn off analytics: Settings → Data & Privacy → "Share anonymous analytics." Applies immediately.
  • Change your email or password: Settings → Account.
  • Manage or cancel your subscription: Settings → Subscription. Cancellation is handled by Apple through the standard iOS subscription management sheet.
  • Delete your account: Settings → Account → Delete Account. All server-side data is deleted; local data on your device is wiped on the next launch.
  • Notifications: Settings → Notifications lets you turn reminders and highlight notifications on or off independently. You can also manage notification permission from iOS Settings.

09 — Your Rights — United States

California — CCPA / CPRA

If you are a California resident, the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA) as amended by the California Privacy Rights Act (CPRA) grants you the following rights:

  • Right to Know: You may request disclosure of the categories and specific pieces of personal information we have collected about you, the sources, the purposes for collection, and the categories of third parties with whom we have shared it.
  • Right to Delete: You may request deletion of your personal information, subject to certain legal exceptions.
  • Right to Correct: You may request correction of inaccurate personal information.
  • Right to Data Portability: You may request a copy of your personal information in a portable format. The in-App export in Section 8 satisfies this right for the content you have created.
  • Right to Opt-Out of Sale or Sharing: We do not sell your personal information and we do not share it for cross-context behavioral advertising. No opt-out is required, but you may contact us to confirm this at any time.
  • Right to Limit Use of Sensitive Personal Information: We do not collect sensitive personal information as defined by the CPRA.
  • Right to Non-Discrimination: We will not deny you service, charge you a different price, or provide a different level of quality for exercising any of your CCPA rights.

How to Submit a Request: Email [email protected] from the email address associated with your account. We will respond within 45 days (extendable by an additional 45 days when reasonably necessary, with notice to you). We may need to verify your identity before processing sensitive requests.

Other US States

Residents of Virginia (VCDPA), Colorado (CPA), Connecticut (CTDPA), Utah (UCPA), Texas (TDPSA), Oregon (OCPA), Montana (MCDPA), and other states with comprehensive consumer privacy laws have substantially similar rights. We extend equivalent rights — access, correction, deletion, portability, and opt-out of sale — to all US residents regardless of state, and we respond to requests within applicable statutory timeframes. Contact us at [email protected] to exercise these rights.

10 — Availability

Scriptorio is currently offered only in App Store regions where Impelechy LLC has chosen to distribute the App. It is not currently offered in the European Union or the European Economic Area. If you access the App from a region outside our distribution list, please contact us before creating an account so we can confirm whether we can lawfully provide the service to you.

11 — Children's Privacy

The App is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 13. If you believe a child under 13 has provided personal information through the App, please contact us at [email protected] and we will delete the information and terminate the account promptly.

12 — Apple App Store & Sign in with Apple

The App is distributed exclusively through the Apple App Store. Your download and installation are covered by Apple's own privacy practices and the App Store terms of service. When you purchase a subscription inside the App, Apple processes the payment; we receive only your subscription status through our subscription-management processor. If you use Sign in with Apple and choose "Hide My Email," we receive only Apple's private relay email address and never see your real email.

13 — Changes to This Policy

We may update this App Privacy Policy from time to time. When we make material changes, we will notify you inside the App and update the "Last updated" date at the top of this page. Continued use of the App after such notice constitutes acceptance of the updated policy. Where required by applicable law, we will seek renewed consent before applying material changes.
